In anticipation of the program in West-Singhbhum 24 coaches were trained by us. A selection of 8 coaches was made who have started the program in December 2016. At each center (central school) the best 25 children of the surrounding schools are trained twice a week. Similar to our programs in Simdega and Khunti we have paired up coaches to conduct those weekly training sessions.
Currently we are working hard with the help of TSRDS and CInI to set up a RDC at different locations in West-Singhbhum. Since West-Singhbhum is very wide spread are and the locations where we are active are scattered we have encountered some practical challenges.
In the grassroots program, boys and girls in the age of 8-16 years, train twice a week. Children in the age of 11-14 years, play for a period of two months an interschool league. Poule winners play the finals during a closing hockey festival. Team who lost, are of course also welcome during the hockey festival. For them, there is a special hockey clinic, games and other fun activities.
Different from our other programs were hockey equipment is distributed to schools, children have received their personal hockey kit consisting of a stick, t-shirt, and short and one pair of socks and shoes.
